Proper Kitten Care

Proper kitten care should start at a very young age. The exotic shorthair cat is very easy to care for thus the reason people love to buy the exotic shorthair cat.

Here at Tescats we are exotic shorthair cat breeders and from the time the babies are born we are not only holding them but doing all of the things kittens need done for them. We brush their beautiful hair, clip their nails (just the very tip with tiny bird clippers) clean the outer ear with cotton round (no q-tip down in the ear ever) clean the eyes with cotton round and warm water or cat eye wash. If you will continue the maintenance of your kitten they will always let you do these things for them with no issues.

Can you imagine not ever cleaning your eyes? Usually most people wash the face each morning after a good nights sleep and it is the same with the cats but they need a little help. Some people like to bathe their fur baby but in speaking to professional pet groomers they say the best is the dry shampoo for cats/kittens only. You do realize there are exceptions to this rule if your kitten has gotten into something that needs soap and water be sure to use products for cats. Usually the dry shampoo and a good brushing will get them clean and smelling great for another month or so. I know many exotic shorthair cat breeders that do not bathe the kittens because it is very scary for the kitten and because they take so long for all of that hair to dry it possibly could make them sick with an upper respiratory infection. So if you do have to bathe them be sure to use kitten shampoo otherwise it could be harmful when they lick themselves. Really they do a great job keeping themselves clean.

The last thing I do recommend as a responsible exotic shorthair breeder is to recommend Revolution spot on treatment (not Revolution plus) for those kittens who also have a dog in the family that goes in and out. This takes care of any fleas that may attack the kitten and also prevents ear mites.

The exotic shorthair should not ever go outside because should they dart off and you can not catch them they are not able to defend themselves due to their adorable smushed in face.
